A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FROM WORLD RENOWNED PARENTAL ALIENATION EXPERTS

OFFICIAL EUROPEAN BOOK LAUNCH

NEW Ground Breaking Book In The Field of Parental Alienation

We are privileged that Professor William Bernet and Dr. Demosthenes Lorandos have chosen our conference to be the official European launch of their new book Parental Alienation Science and Law. They will be presenting the research they used in the creation of this important book at our conference.

This book is intended for mental health and legal professionals who are concerned about
parental alienation: psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and other practitioners; forensic
experts who testify regarding children of high-conflict family relationships; family law attorneys
and professors of family law; domestic relations and family court judges; and researchers who
study the children of separated and divorced parents.

Parental Alienation – Science and Law develops three themes in a comprehensive manner. First,
the chapter authors explain how to conduct a comprehensive psychosocial evaluation in
order to accurately identify children who experience parental alienation. They use the Five-
Factor Model to collect and organize information regarding the mother, the father, and the
children—and to rule out realistic estrangement and other causes of contact refusal. They
explain interventions for mild, moderate, and severe levels of parental alienation. Second, the
authors and editors demonstrate how parental alienation theory fulfills Frye, Daubert, and
Mohan criteria for expert testimony in legal settings. For example, they explain the extensive
research basis for parental alienation and how this topic has been recognized and accepted by
the relevant professional community in the U.S. Third, the authors and editors take on the vast
amount of misinformation regarding parental alienation in professional literature as well as
social media intended for the general public. They methodically refute this false misinformation.
Editor Demosthenes Lorandos, Ph.D., J.D., a forensic psychologist and legal scholar, is also
the editor of the three-volume set, the Litigator’s Handbook on Forensic Medicine, Psychiatry
and Psychology. Editor William Bernet, M.D., a child and adolescent psychiatrist and forensic
psychiatrist, is a professor emeritus at Vanderbilt University. He was the founder and first
president of the Parental Alienation Study Group, a nonprofit corporation devoted to research
and education regarding the prevention, assessment, and interventions for parental alienation.

An Opportunity To Access The Latest Information on Parental Alienation

Dr. Mandy Matthewson will be presenting information from her new book Understanding And Managing Parental Alienation at our Dublin conference. This is a rare opportunity to hear the latest research in the area of Parental Alienation delivered by one of the world's most respected experts in the field.

In Understanding and Managing Parental Alienation: A Guide to Assessment and Intervention, Janet Haines, Mandy Matthewson and Marcus Turnbull offer a comprehensive analysis of contemporary understanding of parental alienation. Grounded in recent scientific advances, this is the first book of its kind providing resources on how to identify parental alienation and a guide to evidence-based intervention.

Parental alienation is a process in which one parent manipulates their child to negatively perceive and reject the other parent. Recognising this phenomenon and knowing when to intervene is often the biggest challenge faced by practitioners and this book provides a guide to this process. Divided into six parts, it examines what parental alienation is and how it is caused, how it affects each family member as a mental health concern and form of violence, and how to assess, identify and intervene successfully from a legal and therapy standpoint. Taking on a gender-neutral approach, the book is filled with contemporary case examples from male and female perspectives, cutting-edge research, practitioner-client dialogues, and practitioners’ reflections to show the difficult realities of parental alienation.

Practical and accessible, this is an essential resource for mental health professionals working with families experiencing parental alienation, as well as postgraduate students of clinical psychology, counselling, family therapy, social work, and child and family psychology. This book will also be of immense interest to family lawyers and mediators due to its multidisciplinary approach.
